Campus Instructional Technology Showcase 2004

The DIIA, through the Center for Instructional Technologies will be hosting the Instructional Technologists' Showcase Event on Tuesday April 27th from 10 am to 12:15 pm in the College of Business Administration (CBA) building room 4.350.  This is a unique opportunity for IT staff to share news, show off projects, and discuss new tools and techniques.

Coffee, snacks, drinks, and a pizza lunch will be provided.  All that is required is a curious mind and a sense of FUN!  Hope to see you there!

The College of Fine Arts recently launched its newly redesigned website featuring a database driven events calendar.

Presenter: Jason Avent
Jason Avent has developed a method of recording classroom lectures using his laptop, a wireless microphone, and ViaVoice.  The result is searchable text transcriptions for PowerPoint slides posted to Blackboard.

Liberal Arts Instructional Technology Services

The Liberal Arts digital image search and organization tool is an application that provides search, organization, and presentation tools for digital images residing in distributed locations around campus. Texas Politics: An on-line, multimedia textbook about Texas government and politics.

UT Digital Video Producers Group
Presenter: Diane Geirisch
Digital media producers across campus created guidelines for distributing video via the World Wide Web. This presentation will cover highlights from these guidelines. It will also address information necessary for streaming video content from the ITS streaming server.

The School of Information Instructional Technology Lab develops print, online, and streaming video tutorials to support classes in the iSchool and beyond.  This presentation will cover the current status of this effort, and technologies and workflows used to produce these materials.

In Fall '02, the majority of the teacher preparation programs at UT implemented a laptop requirement for students. Hear about some of the successes and the growing pains that come as a result of introducing over 1000 laptops into the College.

Center for Instructional Technologies
Presenters:  Denise Ketcham
FTAdmin is a Java web application built using the Struts framework with a relational database backend. It provides a tool for managing the ~FAST Tex student internship program.
The CIT also successfully used the IMS Question & Test Interoperability Specification (QTI) and Java to develop drag-and-drop quizzing software for the department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. QTI provides a proposed XML standard for describing questions and tests.

Presenter:  Joe Sanchez
The Virtual Drag is an interactive website built for foreign language students, teachers, and enthusiasts. The site offers an attention-grabbing interface constructed of digitally drawn images of shops and restaurants on the Guadalupe street "drag" from 22nd through 24th street. The interactive tool will allow users an opportunity to practice and listen to foreign languages in "real-life" settings such as bookstores, cafes, and boutiques.
